My Bulwer-Lytton Entry

So how is this for a beginning:

The tears burned in Stella's eyes like that time last summer when she was making nachos and got some jalapeno juice on her hand and then rubbed her eyes, making them burn like acid and almost blinding her in the process, although this time there was no real danger of being blinded, since these tears were only from the shame and guilt Stella felt from having been at a movie, not even a good one, when her mother died, and not at her mother's bedside until the end.

Now, your turn.

There wasn't a lot going on, but then again, there never was. Not on this night, nor on any other stormy night in Buzz's memory. People just don't go out in a storm to cause mischief. Not normal people, anyway. That's why Buzz nearly fell out of his chair when the phone rang, and he scrambled for the remote to pause his favorite show on the digital video recorder.

How's that?

I like it. Very timely, that comment about the DVR. Anyone else?

He knew that he had put off writing his paper too long. Writing at the last minute never worked for him, but what else could he do? Never before had he had to help three, count 'em THREE boys construct PineWood Derby cars, and now that the race was over, the relief he felt was completely overshadowed by the monster of having to quite likely stay up all night to finish his paper.

I mentioned the Bulwer-Lytton issue in my previous post, and suggested that we all try it.
